Pilates

This form of exercise Joseph Pilates originally created combines intense mental conditioning with physical training. The goal is to produce a lean and lithe physique, proper body alignment, and balance. Pilates is for all levels of athletic ability from beginner to elite, and can supplement any strength and conditioning program as a way to challenge muscles in different ways. The benefits include:

•  Increased joint strength and stability

•  Increased flexibility and range of motion

•  Rehabilitation and injury prevention

•  Increased strength/stability of the spine and core musculature

•  Increased coordination

Trainers in all major sports use Pilates to rehab and strengthen sprains, strains, stress fractures, and all types of spinal and joint problems. Research indicates that people should train the way that they perform, so the idea with Pilates is that you are doing functional movements similar to what you're doing in daily activities.

Pilates sessions at The Cutting Edge can be performed privately or with a partner.
